Rosarito offers endless outdoor activities to suit everyone's taste and activity level, from marvelous golf courses, water sports, walking tours, to fun-filled off road adventures at the Cantamar Sand Dunes. Please see a comprehensive list of outdoor activities that will keep you coming back to Rosarito for more.
Rosarito Beach
Small, picturesque beach lined with posh hotels frequented by movie stars: There is plenty to do on Rosarito Beach. From beach volleyball pick-up games to swimming, surfing, and building sand castles, you will find the perfect activity. Strolling along the beach, you can check out the Beach vendors selling everything from cold coconuts to beautiful hand made silver jewelry
Diving and Snorkeling
For snorkeling and dive enthusiasts, there are several excellent options, including day trips in and around San Diego, Rosarito and surrounding Baja area.
The island directly in front of the Rosarito Beach hotel is a good snorkel and dive spot when the ocean surface is calm. This is usually during the summer months. Just north of Rosarito Beach, many dive clubs offer day trips to the Coronado Islands. These islands are an easy one day jaunt on a dive boat out of San Diego, and the visibility and sea life is very good.
Ocean water temperatures usually bottom out at around 55 degrees in February, and then gradually warm up to about 70 degrees by late August
Please visit these dive companies for more information:
Baja Blue Divers
Horizon Charters
Seaclypse
Hang Gliding
You can learn to fly or merely ride tandem with an experienced pilot at Aguiluchos, located in Rosarito.
Check our their website for more info: http://www.aguiluchos.4t.com/
Horseback Riding
If you've always wanted to ride a horse along the beach, this is your chance. Several groups of vaqueros or cowboys with docile horses ready for rent line up at both ends of the Rosarito Beach Hotel. Horses are available for rent in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, as well as just south of town, right off of the free road by the parking lot.
There are also horses for rent a bit north, near Papa's and Beer. Rides start along the beach and often up to the hills and return. Guides take excellent care of you. So 'giddy up' for an early morning ride. Location: Rosarito Beach near Rosarito Beach Hotel & in front of Papa's & Beers.
Kayaking
Launching off the beach west of the main highway is usually no problem. Because most of Rosarito's coast is sandy beach, the scenery is predicable. Heading a bit south of town provides more diverse views, as the sand changes into low bluffs.
Kayaks can often be rented in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, and the two small islands in front of the hotel make a fun kayak excursion (once you get out past the waves!). For even better (and more remote) kayaking head south towards LA SALINA and BAJAMAR.
When you are ready for a serious kayaking adventure, consider heading across the mountains to the Sea of Cortez and the spectacular fishing village of BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES and all of its offshore islands (not to mention the resident finback whales and dolphins!).
Offroading and Sand Dunes
The Cantamar sand dunes are south of Puerto Nuevo and are natural phenomena well worth a visit. These beautiful dunes give the Baja traveler a taste of a unique desert environment.
Cantamar Dunes run about 2 miles long, located between the coastal road and the coastline. Watch out for motor vehicles of all types in the nooks and crannies of these dunes! Mornings are usually calm (and sometimes foggy), and the cool sea breeze usually picks up after lunch. Access is via a dirt road in town, just north of the free road exit.
Dune buggies, motorcycles, and ATV's love the sand dunes that start south of Puerto Nuevo running between the coastal highway and the coastline. Vehicles with a large antenna topped with a bright orange flags stand a better chance of a safe outing, as some of the dunes get steep rather suddenly.
Paint Ball
For a totally awesome way to have fun just 20 minutes north of Rosarito Beach check out BAJA PAINT BALL Yikes!!
Parasailing
Vendors offer parasailing in and around Rosarito Beach Hotel
Whale Watching
Baja is well known as a great place to whale watch. The Peninsula is home to several different types of whales, including the California Gray whale and the Finback whale. While the California Grays are just visiting for short periods of time along the west coast, the Finbacks are full-time residents in the Sea of Cortez. Season begins late December and ends early April.

Walking Tours
The Rosarito walking tour is a suggested route that runs through the most interesting touristic sites (that you hardly appreciate from your vehicle) that the city of Rosarito has to offer. You´ll be able to walk the entire route in approximately 2 hours, or better yet, take your time and make it an all day tour.
The Baja California State Tourism Secretariat has an office on the south end of the Benito Juarez Blvd., in Rosarito, where you will be able to get a hold of tourist assistance and information. Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 1:00 p.m.. The Rosarito Convention & Visitors Bureau also has an information office where they can assist you.
